Get to know us here! Concert Band One of the school's three performing arts CCA, the concert band is known to be a music-making group that is always eager to explore new or creative ways of music-making. Besides working hard for the bi-annual Singapore Youth Festival Central Judging of Concert Bands and school functions like the Annual Speech and Prize Presentation Day, the band also diversifies its music-making efforts to include STOMP and samba percussion routine in its repertoire. posted on Sunday, August 19, 2007 Dear band members The 2 1/2-day Band Convention that I had attended with another 2 of your teachers-in-charge has been an inspiration. To be together with like-minded people who feels SO STRONGLY about band (its music and its ability to mould character) really has made me think harder as to how we can improve our band. No matter what we have to go through - the intensive practices, the discrimination (yes, whoever THAT person is on our tagboard) and the lack of confidence we face from others, we HAVE to believe in ourselves that we CAN succeed - as a band and as an individual. It was a rush of emotions too for me as I met up with my fellow band members from my college as well as my band instructor who still IS fighting very hard to push band music to the forefront as well as trying his hardest to mould the young ones to be leaders, future leaders, whoever they are and wherever they will be, one day. Seeing so many of his (ex) students like me at the Band Convention alone, I must say, he HAS succeeded. He HAS succeeded to inspire his band members to be LIKE him - to love music SO MUCH that they have decided to pass it on as musicians, band instructors or at least, band teachers-in-charge. I could only tell him that I have not done my best for the band that I am in charge of now but he believes that all is not lost yet. He urged me to carry on to do what I believe and NOT to give up so easily. It's been a cool TEN years since I left the college... but my instructor is still so inspiring. I hope that all of you band members will remember that the band is YOUR responsibility - it will NOT succeed without YOUR effort and YOUR hard work. We need to work together. Please DO NOT give up. We need to move FORWARD, not backward. And, most importantly, we need to show those people who DO NOT believe in us that we definitely CAN do it cos we have what it takes to succeed.
